Purpose

This book club is designed to help readers engage deeply with meaningful, well-written tech books by discussing them with others in a low-effort, high-value format.

Key Principles:

  • Asynchronous: no live meetings
  • Flexible: skip a week if needed, no pressure
  • Focused: we read one book at a time, on a shared schedule
  • Insight-driven: discussions are reflective, not summary-based

How It Works

1. One Book at a Time

Each cycle is centered around a single book. Before starting, a short sign-up form will be shared to:

  • Collect email addresses
  • Assign weekly discussion leaders
  • Build a group of interested readers

2. Platform

All discussion will take place on Google Groups
There are no Zoom meetings or live calls.

3. Weekly Format

  • We read 1–2 chapters per week (based on book length)
  • One person leads that week’s discussion by starting a thread on Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  • Others reply with reflections, questions, links, and personal experiences

4. Leading a Week(s)

  • Leaders are assigned in advance
  • A reminder is sent on Saturday evening if the post hasn’t gone up
  • If needed, the organizer will post to keep things moving

Book Selection

Books are chosen based on the following guidelines:

  • Approximately 300–500 pages
  • Not textbooks, but intellectually rigorous
  • Relevant to Technology and software systems
  • Suitable for 15-20 weeks of reading
  • Participants can nominate books after each cycle via a feedback form

Example Schedule

  • Week 0: Announce the book, open sign-ups, assign leaders
  • Week 1: Chapters 1–2, discussion opens by Sunday
  • Week 2: Chapters 3–4, new thread posted
  • … and so on for the duration of the book

Participation

  • You’re welcome to participate actively or read silently
  • If you’ve signed up to lead a week, please try to follow through
  • All posts should reflect respectful, constructive engagement
  • I will take up the first couple of weeks to set the tone.
